We are starting up a campaign for Fort St. John to develop a greater sense of community. We are calling it 'A Caring Community'.
'A Caring Community' Continued
Part of the FSJ Association for Community Living's mission is to promote opportunities for those with developmental disabilities to feel a greater sense of community, to be and feel included. Another part of our mission is to educate community and as such the FSJACL has begun 'A Caring Community' campaign that will provide opportunity for FSJ to achieve a greater sense of community.
Part of this campaign will be a share/care information evening each month at various locations to help educate the community about various disabilities and the people who have them.
Another part of this campaign is 'Share your Talent', where community members can spend an hour or so at one of our homes or programs and share your talent with the people there, whether it be play an instrument, sing a song, read poetry, or draw a picture.
A third element to this campaign is 'Share Your Self', where you spend some time with an individual, either going to a show, game, or just hanging out over coffee.

Pay It Forward
Some of the acts we did were:
We brought 120 plates of homemade goodies to multiple places.
We picked weeds and garbage at NPACU, BCGEU,and Wellness Centre and area.
We dusted books and shelves at the library.
We did hair and nails for ladies at the Care Centre.
Stories from the day:
A team of 6 FSJACL clients and staff assembled outside the back door of the
North Peace Savings and Credit Union to Pay It Forward. We were ready to pick garbage,
clean up the garden, or whatever was needed. Our contact at NPSCU was quite touched
and said " You're making me choke up",as we gave her a plate of goodies with a
Pay It Forward card attached with a ribbon and said we were ready to Pay It Forward.
It was an honor to give to the NPSCU as they are always giving to this community.
After sweeping the parking lot, weeding a very negleted shrub bed, and picking up
garbage at the BCGEU office, we received $50 (BCGEU's Pay It Forward).
Then we Paid It Forward again and gave the $50 to the Wheels In Motion camapaign.
One of our clients who works at the TD bank, and has for many years, gave the bank a plate of goodies. When he came back on his next work day, he found a box of choclates, and a $50 bonus. Wow was he thrilled! Proof that an act of kindness really does come back to you.
If you took part on June 12 and Paid It Forward, then share your stories with us.

DGS Tournament
The FSJACL had the privilege of helping DGS out with their Invitational Charity Golf Tournament. It was a perfect day to golf although there was thunder and rain in the wee hours of the morning. The FSJACL is truely grateful to DGS and all the participants for their generousity, we are truely touched and appreciative.
On October 2 DGS presented the FSJACL with a cheque of $15000 at their office.
Cindy Mohr and Cory Goodwin were there to receive the cheque. What an honor and a privilege to receive this donation. The FSJACL is completely grateful to John Cunningham and staff of DGS for their generosity.
